Return to School COVID Information From Superintendent Martha Ryan-Toye

Dear Parents and Guardians

Happy August! We look forward to welcoming all children back to our schools on August 25th.

Please know that the safety of your children is always our top priority and particularly as we still face the ongoing challenges of COVID-19. Not unlike last school year, this year will once again present a unique set of considerations and essential safety protocols related to COVID-19.

Please see several important details related to the safe start of our 2021-2022 school year.

  • Governor Pritzker announced a mask mandate for all Illinois school children along with all staff. This mandate applies to all students and staff members regardless of vaccination status.
  • We will once again be utilizing a saliva screening process to add to our safety strategies. We are requesting and encouraging high levels of participation in this screening. Please note that only families who complete the OPT OUT SAMPLE COLLECTION Form will be opted out of the saliva screening protocol. It is imperative that if you DO NOT want your child(ren) to participate in this screening that you complete the OPT OUT Form (attached here). Please note a separate form is needed for each student.  See the form for specific drop-off information.
  • We will not be requiring daily symptom checks.  We will not be taking students' temperatures upon arrival at school. We will be sending a one-time attestation form to all parents to agree and acknowledge your commitment to keeping your child at home with any signs of illness until COVID-19 is ruled out. We will send that form to you in the weeks ahead.

While the important protocols may seem a bit daunting, please know that we are eager to see your children at school. We know that children learn best with a high quality teacher amongst their peers. Whether your child attended the Remote Academy or attended in-person last year, we are committed to your child’s overall success as we navigate the 2021-2022 school year.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s principal or to me with questions about the upcoming school year.

We look forward to seeing your child on August 25th.

Stay safe, stay healthy and stay connected,

Martha
