Welcome Back Families

Dear Husky Families,

I hope this letter finds you enjoying the end of summer and getting ready for the new challenges of another school year. The Hollywood Staff is excitedly preparing to welcome our students and families, to show you all that There’s no place like Hollywood.

At Hollywood School, we strongly believe in the partnership between home and school. Parents are their child’s first teacher, and when schools and parents work together, we are a very powerful force for our children. Together (students, parents, and school staff) we are the Hollywood School Learning Community. As an important member of our learning community, please feel free to contact the staff and me at any time with questions or concerns. We look forward to working with you in the support of your child’s growth.

Dropoff, pickup, and bicycle parking are always interesting around Hollywood. At dropoff and pickup, it is essential for safety that cars picking up and dropping off children at Hollywood are moving north. Please follow our Traffic Safety Guidelines. As you can see, there is no space on Hollywood Avenue at DropOff and PickUp for drivers to park and exit their vehicles. Bicycles should be walked while on campus and parked and locked on the racks in the front of school on the west side of the gym. Also on the Traffic Safety Guidelines you can find the morning line-up locations for your students. Teachers will meet students at their line-up spots and escort them to class.

We have a few new staff members to welcome to Hollywood this year:

  • Lauren Dryanski - First Grade
  • Kelly Duewel - Library
  • Kevin Flynn - Occupational Therapist
  • Denise Johnson - Communication Development

School begins Wednesday, August 23rd, for all students. Students should enter school at 8:05, and school officially runs from 8:15 a.m. – 2:55 p.m. We offer supervision in front of school beginning at 7:55 a.m. Lunch and recess run 11:25 - 11:50 and 11:50 - 12:15 - with Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade going to recess first; 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade eating lunch first.

On Tuesday, August 22nd, families of our Huskies will have the opportunity to bring school supplies into the classroom and meet their teacher between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Also, the Hollywood PTA will host a social and offer a treat in front of the school during this time to gather and reconnect with friends and families.

Kindergarten families are invited to gather before Meet the Teacher, on Tuesday, August 22nd, when our PTA will host a Kindergarten Picnic on the school grounds at 1:30 p.m. Kindergarten Huskies should bring a snack, a stuffy, and a picnic blanket and gather in the playground area to meet new friends and Ms. Kwasiborski and make connections.

New for families this year, the District is offering lunch options. Students are welcome to bring a packed lunch from home or purchase a school lunch with a milk included. As before, students can still purchase ala carte milk to drink with their lunch from home. Any students receiving a milk will have an option of white or chocolate milk. Payment for lunch items will come directly out of your child’s Pushcoin wallet. Lunch Menus can be found here. We will also post them to the Hollywood Backpack page monthly. For more information about the new lunch program, check out this page on the D96 Website.

Finalized class assignments will be emailed on Friday, August 18th, to parents of all children whose registration is complete. I’d like to encourage you to stay connected to our school community. Please subscribe for weekly info from the school and the District on the right side of these webpages: Hollywood Backpack and D96 Community Connections. If you are on Facebook, consider liking the following pages to see what’s happening in the Hollywood learning community: Hollywood School Facebook Page and Hollywood PTA Facebook Page.

Finally, the District Parent Handbook contains all sorts of information to answer any questions and about how to find and get what you need. Hollywood also offers answers to Parent FAQ’s. Feel free to peruse and use these wonderful resources.

I am excited about our journey together this year. Thank you for your partnership in creating an incredible learning environment for all of our Huskies. When we are all working together, there truly is no place like Hollywood.

With Husky Pride,

Kim Hefner, Principal
